Conditions Treated

Neck & shoulder conditions we treat

Whether your pain is from an acute injury or years of accumulated tension, acupuncture gets to the root of it โ€” not just the symptom.

๐Ÿ“ฑ

Tech Neck

The forward head posture from hours on devices compresses the cervical spine and strains the deep neck flexors. Acupuncture releases the muscle groups involved and restores normal alignment patterns.

๐Ÿ’ผ

Shoulder Tension & Tightness

Chronic upper trapezius tension from stress and desk work responds quickly to acupuncture. Most patients feel significant softening of the shoulder girdle within 1โ€“3 sessions.

๐Ÿ”„

Cervical Disc & Nerve Pain

Radiating pain, tingling, or numbness into the arms and hands from cervical disc issues can be significantly reduced with acupuncture โ€” often avoiding the need for injections or surgery.

๐Ÿค•

Whiplash & Acute Injury

Post-accident neck pain and whiplash respond well to acupuncture, especially when treatment begins early. Acupuncture reduces inflammation, releases spasm, and accelerates tissue healing.

๐Ÿง

Tension Headaches

Most tension headaches originate in the neck and shoulders. Treating the source โ€” rather than masking with pain medication โ€” provides lasting relief and reduces headache frequency over time.

๐ŸŒ€

Frozen Shoulder

Adhesive capsulitis (frozen shoulder) is notoriously resistant to conventional treatment. Acupuncture, often combined with cupping and e-stim, significantly reduces pain and restores range of motion.

Treatment

What your treatment looks like

Neck and shoulder treatment typically combines acupuncture with one or more complementary techniques for faster, deeper results.

Acupuncture

Fine needles placed along the gallbladder, bladder, and triple warmer meridians release tight muscles, reduce inflammation, and improve circulation to the affected area. Most patients feel immediate softening of tension.

Cupping Therapy (+$35)

Glass or silicone cups create suction on the upper back and shoulders, lifting the fascia and dramatically releasing the deep muscle adhesions that cause chronic tension and restricted movement.

Electro-Stimulation (+$35)

A gentle electrical current through the needles amplifies the muscle-relaxing effect โ€” particularly effective for cervical disc involvement and chronic nerve pain patterns.

Postural & Lifestyle Guidance

Janice provides targeted advice on ergonomics, stretching, and daily habits that perpetuate neck tension โ€” because treatment works best when you're not recreating the problem between sessions.

Results

How many sessions will I need?

1โ€“3 sessions

Acute neck pain or tension from a specific recent incident. Most patients feel major relief after the first session.

4โ€“8 sessions

Chronic tech neck and shoulder tension built up over months or years. Significant improvement expected by session 4โ€“5.

8โ€“12 sessions

Cervical disc involvement, frozen shoulder, or nerve pain patterns. Ongoing maintenance often recommended.

FAQ

Neck & shoulder acupuncture FAQ

Does acupuncture hurt for neck and shoulder pain? +
Most patients feel minimal discomfort from needle insertion โ€” a brief sensation that fades quickly. The dominant experience is deep muscle release and relaxation. Many patients fall asleep during treatment.
Can acupuncture fix my posture? +
Acupuncture releases the muscular tension that pulls your posture out of alignment โ€” making it significantly easier to hold good posture with less effort. Janice also provides postural guidance and corrective exercises to reinforce the changes made in treatment.
I've had neck pain for years. Is it too late? +
Not at all. Chronic pain patterns do take longer to resolve than acute ones, but even long-standing neck and shoulder issues typically respond well to acupuncture. Janice has successfully treated patients who have been in pain for a decade or more.
Should I get an MRI before starting acupuncture? +
Not necessarily. For most neck and shoulder pain, imaging isn't required before starting acupuncture. If you've already had imaging, bring it to your first visit โ€” it provides useful context. If there's any suspicion of serious pathology, Janice will refer you appropriately.
